Sociological Dissection- Japanese Attack on Pearl Harbor
As earlier stated, the Japanese nether military nor economically powerful as compared to the United States. The attack of the Pearl Harbor by the Japanese military was just a gamble (Harrison, 2000). Although the short-run gamble was successful to a considerable extent, it is a fact that the long-run gamble was not successful. This is because the Japanese were wrong when it came to the reaction of the United States. It is a fact that Japan had conquered other nations in prevision wars including China in 1945, and Russia in 1945 in battles regarding who would dominate Korea as per our sociology assignment help experts. Therefore, due to its quest for power, the Japanese nation as well as its military felt that control all of East Asia through military force (Dower, 2000). This explains the reason why the country has gone to extreme cases of bombing the United States. Nevertheless, this was a move that led to a lot of deaths, not only in Japan, but also in other nations across the world.
Invasions of several Asian countries by the Japanese military brought a lot of resistance from most of the European colonial powers (MacEachin, 2008). Additionally, it brought a lot of resistance from most of the Asian people. This is because most of the Asian countries felt that Japan was greedy for power, and could do anything to control the East Asian countries (Harrison, 2000). After bombing the United States, this became worse, as the US also brought a lot of résistance to the Japanese military as well as the Japanese nation at large. The early victories of Japan seemed to prove that Japan was indeed powerful. Nevertheless, the US victory at Midway Island in 1942 resulted to the steady encirclement of the various Japanese Islands (Kawamura, 2000). In this regarding, these islands were cut off from the needed supplies of raw materials including rubber, and oil. This tremendously affected the economy of Japan, as without the required raw materials for the industries, the country was not in a position to manufacture various products for local consumptions as well as for export. At this time, the World War II was already on the rise as various nations try to become the world powers.
The Japanese army was heavily destroyed by the United States, rendering the country less powerful. However, this was just the beginning of the downfall of the country. In 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb over Hiroshima, one of the greatest cities of Japan (Rottman, 2002). This was the first deployed atomic bomb in the world. Taking this into account, the explosion of the atomic bomb wiped out more than 90 percent of the city, killing over 80000 people immediately (Kawamura, 2000). Other tens of thousands people died later because of the exposure of the radiation. Hiroshima has been chosen as the primary target of the atomic bomb attack. This is because of its military as well as industrial values. Considering its military value, Hiroshima was one of the primary army bases in the Japan, which was the headquarters of the 2nd army and Japanese 5th Division (Harrison, 2000). Additionally, Hiroshima was one of the most significant ports in South Japan as well as communication center. The various mountains that surrounded Hiroshima also contributed considerably to Hiroshima being the primary target. This is because mountains usually contain the destructive forces that would increase the level of destruction. Three days later, the second atomic bomb was dropped over the city of Nagasaki, killing over 40000 people (MacEachin, 2008). Nagasaki was one of the major shipbuilding cities in Japan as well as a large military port. The fact that the city had grown as a port implied that the atomic bomb had substantial impact on the economy of the country. After these incidents, the Japanese nation was left in a compromising state. This is because the country was starving and greatly devastated by the war, which affected its economy to c substantial impact. This indicates the consequences of its quest for power its stability in terms of political structure as well as economy.
In conclusion, it is a fact that the quest for power have dominated the over the last many years. This is as individuals as well as nations attempt to get power of influencing other individuals or nations, especially the ones that are said to be less powerful. Taking this into consideration, it is a fact from the above that the quest for power usually encompasses a wide range of actions for the purpose of gaining influence or control over the process of decision making. In this regard, alliances together with coalitions are usually formed as part of the political process. In addition, they normally involve deliberate attempts of undermining those opposing the coalition. Quest for power has been proven to bring a lot of instability in the world, rather than progress. From this essay, the war between the United States and Japan between 1931 and 1945 is an indication on how quest for power can limit growth and development of a country. This is because the quest for power for Japan to control the Asian countries led to bombing, which its effect is still felt up to today. Taking this into consideration, it is therefore evidence that the quest for power usually causes instability rather than progress.
